Hummer as the American Icon

It is apparent that the Hummer is losing its friends.

Once admired as everything American the rugged off-road/on road colossus, the "macho" of such figures as "Govenator" Arnie Schwarzenegger and "Rambo" Sylvester Stallone,  has fallen from favor because of its appetite for gasoline. Now a days when small is beautiful -- and more cost and fuel efficient -- there appears to be no place for the Hummer.

Thus General Motors is said to be thinking about selling the brand. However, a few die hard pundits are saying that it would be a mistake. They argue that GM actually needs some sorta "attention grabber" to arouse memories of its good old days. And the Hummer is purely American.

Our take? We understand the desire to hold on to the past. But alas, times call for drastic actions.
If GM wishes to survive, it can sure use the funds it can garner from the sale of Hummer. To those die hard pundits who want to continue the “macho” tradition of the America of the ‘50s and ‘60s, the reality of the times trumps nostalgia..
