Pundits have been speculated that, with all the problems faced by General Motors, Ford, and Chrysler, that one, if not all, will start to sell brands to foreign carmakers like the Chinese.
It's understandable. Chinese automakers have been eager to find a toehold in North America and flood us with even more of their manufactured junk. And they are seeking global partners and assets. So purchasing an American icon like Mercury or HUMMER is a sure bet, right?
Uh, no. China’s fledgling carmakers see no point in putting their eggs in the basket labeled with Ford or GM.
They just aren’t interested in American ones. Chery, known for making inexpensive automobiles, has already signed on with Fiat to make Alfa Romeos. There is also the distinct possibility that Chinese management could taint the Hummer or Volvo brands were they to acquire them. Chinese automakers simply lack the managerial experience to operate on a international scale and suffer from limited international exposure for their vehicles.
