Nissan 350Z taps Infiniti for Successor

Nissan, after showing off its plans for a successor to the Nissan Z two-seater sports car this year in Portugal, plans to use the lessons learned in the evolution of the Z to create an affordable RWD coupe.

Remember the 240 SX? Basically the same concept, but now accompanied by an additional twenty years' worth of technology and experience.

By creating a fuel-efficient but entrancing coupe, Nissan hopes to bring the as-yet unnamed project to bear against similar offerings by automakers Toyota, Subaru, and Hyundai. While this new car probably won't be using the 3.7L engine the G37S uses and the 370Z is expected to use, the temptation of buying an Infiniti-branded version with a 2.5L V6 (over the Nissan-branded 4-Cylinder version) will be strong.

Our take? BMW and Audi's baby sports cars, the 1 Series and the A1, respectively, will have a more interesting time when this new Nissan comes to bear; a concept of the Nissan coupe isn't even expected until later on this year, however, so keep an eye out for more coverage as more information is sure to surface in the coming weeks.
