Benefiting from being the luxury division of Nissan, Infiniti has been able to raid the “corporate parts bin” in the development of many (all) of its vehicles. Next on its ,list it seems, is a competitor for the 1-series BMW.
According to the Canadian Auto Press, parent company Nissan is developing the ideal platform in a successor of the import cult classic 240 SX models. The BMW fighter will be small and rear-wheel drive and likely derived from the platform of the next generation Z, the car in Nissan guise would be powered an inline 4 of some type. As an Infiniti, it would likely be powered by a smaller V-6, so as to not overlap with the current G37.
Our take? No doubt the new Infiniti will be more luxurious than a comparable Nissan, but with a likely price range to overlap with the Z, one wonders if it will be a good value, the Z after all, benefitting from a more powerful motor.
