The upcoming Ford Fusion GT should do much to dispel that.
The motor will once again not disappoint. Ford has crafted a 340 hp twin-turbo V6 with direct injection. Dubbed "EcoBoost", the 3.5 liter motor was designed to provide V8 level of power and a similar driving experience with the economy of a smaller motor. Oh, and did we mention it uses regular.
Of near equal importance is the chassis. It should be up to snuff, or at least has the potential to be. The Fusion's based on the raceable Mazda6, and Ford looks to further improve upon it by freeing the front wheels from doing all the work by adding a Haldex AWD system. Paddle shift transmission add all the right sporting ingredients.
Is Ford's aim to create a "poor man's" Audi S4?
Our take? The Ford chassis is king in Europe, and the American motors have always been peaches. If the Fusion GT can somehow marry the two, even the likes of the rally twins (i.e., Mitsubishi Evo, Subaru WRX STi) could be challenged by it.
