Why does California get all the cool cars first?!

AutoWeek reports that BMW will be developing a new MINI-Cooper electric car for the Golden state. 490 of these EVs will be leased to selected customers in California and 10 will be used as show cars.

The MINIs are part of a new division called Project i, which was created by BMW to come up with cars that emit less carbon dioxide and can be used as city cars. They are being built in plants in Great Britain and then sent to Munich, Germany where electric powertains will be added.

Other European car companies making EVs include Volkswagen, Daimler, and Renault-Nissan.
