Auto theft was down for the fourth year in a row in 2007.
Thefts declined, said the National Insurance Crime Bureau (NICB) because of license plate readers, “bait cars,” and more law enforcement funding. Their figures are based on the FBI’s Preliminary Uniform Crime Report which is published every year.
The most stolen cars turned out to be the 1995 Honda Civic and 1991 Accord; the 1989 Toyota Camry; and the 1997 Ford F-150. Others include the 1994 Nissan Sentra and 2004 Dodge Ram.
NICB suggested that you can deter theft of your vehicle by using a car alarm and installing tracking devices based on GPS technology.
