Perhaps one of the smartest business decisions in the past few years is the creation of alliances. Not out right buy outs, alliances. These include Renault and Nissan and American auto makers and auto makers in China, Japan, and Korea.
Chrysler has announced an alliance with the Great Wall Motor Company in China. The alliance will focus on sharing technology, components and distribution. But Great Wall is not Chrysler's only alliance. It is trying to increase its sales in China and already has an agreement with Chery concerning the manufacturing and sale of subcompact cars. The Chery-made cars are to be sold under the Dodge name. Originally the Dodge Hornet was to be based off a Chery platform but Chrysler has since allied itself with Nissan to build the compact crossover. Our take? Great Wall produces SUVs and pickup trucks. Oh, no. Isn’t that what you want to avoid? But word is that the Chinese company is expanding into cars. Let’s hope so.
