HUMMER Owners Disregard High Gas Prices, Low Mileage

Owners of so-called "gas guzzlers" vehicles continue to not only cling to their non-green autos, but enjoy the notoriety it may give them.

One gas guzzler that seems to have amassed a following is the General Motors' HUMMER brand. Despite the fact that GM is cutting production, owners of the military-based vehicle
survive ridicule from anti-Hummer drivers. This group is so well organized it has its own website (http://www.FUH2.com).

So have said owners gone off the road so to speak? Not at all. For example, you may not be aware that Hummer owners get a tax break. They can write off up to $100,000 as a business expense due to a loophole in a law that was originally meant to help farmers with their trucks. The tax is triggered by weight, not use, and the Hummer is one of the heaviest vehicles on the road. The H3 weighs 5,000 pounds. That’s 2-1/2 tons.

More details can be found at Palm Beach Post. Our take? Personally, we have no problem people owning what they drive except when they disregard us on the road, blocking our views and driving their monstrosities like race cars and the public road their private track.
