Satellite radio companies XM and Sirius are still waiting for a sign from the Federal Communications Commission that their impending merger is approved.

One of the demands the FCC is considering for both is to include HD Radio in the XM and Sirius Satellite Radio receivers. The auto makers, like General Motors and Toyota, however, look upon this idea as government interference. They say that HD Radio is doing just fine, thank you very much, and there is no need to tie it to XM and Sirius. Besides, argue auto makers are offering HD Radio as an independent option.

Our take? It certainly will be interesting to see what the final requirements are on the Satellite Radio companies if the merger is approved.

That would be cool to have HD Radio bundled with satellite, but I'd gladly pay a little extra for it on its own.
