smart fortwo faces even smaller rival

Gordon Murray Design, with a resume that can lay claim to the creation of the Mclaren F1, the creation of a “city car” that makes a MINI seem full-sized could be seen as a step backward.

The world however has changed and efficiency is in. One third smaller than the already small smart, nearly a foot shorter and narrower, the Gordon Murray Design T.25 is truly tiny. But it promises a staggering 75 mpg with speeds up to 80 mph on the freeway. Interestingly, since it weighs 440 pounds less than a smart, the T.25 should provide more normal performance as well, as opposed to the incredibly slow Daimler offering.

The T.25 is still a city car. It could be driven side by side with another T.25 with parallel parking could be dispatched in the same way as the Smart, i.e. parking perpendicular to the curb and driving straight in.

Gordon Murray Design will not be producing the car however; instead, the company is shopping the design to other companies in hopes they'll produce it under license.

Our take? Imagine if the world's manufactures, and more importantly, the world's people decided that cars should be about this size, and no larger. Congestion could be all but eliminated in most metropolitan areas, an many safety concerns would disappear. Alas, it will never happen.
