Ford-owned Volvo has a great reputation as far as safety is concerned.

The Swedish brand, the last of Ford's Premiere Automotive Group, or PAG, is continuously looking for ways to make it easier and safer to drive a car, prevent accidents, and survive should an accident occur.

Now it is being reported that Volvo is working with VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland to develop a new method for monitoring a driver’s status. The system monitors the driver’s eye direction, health, and demeanor and is meant to keep distractions from affecting the driver’s focus. This includes verifying if the driver is too sleepy, distracted, or preoccupied. The new technology then adapts the vehicle control system according to the driver, the vehicle, and the traffic.

The idea is to present the driver with data at times when he or she is under less pressure driving the vehicle.

Our take? Wouldn't it be better just to have the car drive?
