Land Rover’s Project L486—which may be christened Ventura—is expected to be a seven seat SUV launching in 2012. With a wider body and longer wheelbase the L486 will be built off a platform variant of the Freelander. The engine may also come from the Freelander family and could include a 4 cylinder diesel.
The Ventura might receive better reception in the U.S. which is the land of suckers for big cars, but whether or not they’ll still have a market here by 2012 remains to be seen. Land Rover might replace the Freelander (LR2) with the Ventura in the U.S.
Our take? Another heavy weight joining the lineup. They might have better luck in the Middle East than the U.S. with this baby.
