Will More Air Improve Engine Efficiency?

The quest to re-invent the engine to assure better fuel economy has been a dream ever since we first experienced a gasoline crisis.

Now comes word that Hefley Engine Company, a Nevada based business, has a new engine that can increase fuel efficiency between 25 to 35 percent.

The CEO of the company, Carl Hefley, claims that the engine has been totally re-designed -- that it is an entirely new engine. It will process all types of fuel including gasoline, diesel, biodiesel, ethanol, and certain types of hydrogen products.

The secret, according to Hefley, to the engine’s performance is that it uses more oxygen than conventional gas engines. The engine apparently adapts to air consumption by physically expanding and shrinking.

More details can be found at Auto News. Our take? Hefley is currently looking for funding for his design. It will be interesting to see which companies will pay for this snake oil.
