Fuel Efficient Cars with a Low Price Tag

With the rise in gasoline prices and the warning that new cars will be costing more as well, more and more people are turning to fuel efficient used cars.

Well, Consumer Reports recently released its annual used cars ratings and one of the major categories was “Best in Fuel Economy.” Here are some of the low priced cars and their overall fuel efficiency:

  • 2006-2007 Honda Civic Hybrid. 37 mpg
  • 2007 Honda Fit. 34 mpg. Not that the Sport trim gets the same fuel economy.
  • 2004-2007 Mazda3i. 30 mpg. Whoohoo! (Yes, we're biased).
  • 2006 Mini Cooper. 30 mpg. (Still too over-priced.)
  • 2006 Scion xA. 31 mpg
  • 2004-2006 Scion xB. 32 mpg
  • 2004-2006 Toyota Prius (of course). 44 mpg
  • 2007 Toyota Yaris. 33 mpg for the sedan.

Our take? Newcomers like the smart fortwo will be facing a lot of competition not only from the new car market but the used one as well.
