As always, the first car to feature the hybrid system will be the S-class, a car which has always introduced the world to the latest innovations of the brand. In its S400 Hybrid guise, the car will be the first to feature Li Ion technology in its battery packs.
Despite the added weight and complexity of the system, and the need to make even the gas motor more efficient, which in turn add to the cost of the vehicle, Mercedes feels that the premium its big hybrid will command is enough to offset any other costs. Its also a big reason the S-class will be the first to get the systems, as the pricing needed to make the lesser models profitable would knock them out of their respective classes in terms of pricing.
