Arnold Schwarzenegger was seen the other day in Los Angeles in a typical American muscle car that is designed for pure power by guzzling fuel. The Dodge Challenger has a 6.1 litre V8 engine that can reach 60 mph under 5 seconds, and gets just 13 miles to a gallon.
Schwarzenegger, the former Hollywood action star, is known as a strong proponent of green issues on climate change and oil demand—America’s addiction, he calls it—and ran on the platform of bringing the state of California to the forefront of hydrogen fuel cell research. The sight of him cruising in a Dodge Challenger Coupe has some critics calling him hypocritical to his professed aims.
Our take? Seriously toss the man a bone. He already sold his Hummer fleet, which we imagine was like stabbing himself with a knife and twisting it in the gut. It isn’t like his abstinence from gasoline really alters the economic demand which is what is setting fuel prices nowadays. Haven’t you ever snuck in a cheeseburger behind your girlfriend’s back when you were supposed to be on a diet?
