Cut Fuel Costs without Hybrids

People who wish to combat the ever increasing cost of gasoline don’t have to turn around and buy a hybrid. But they do have to get rid of their gas guzzler.

Wanna know a little secret? You don't need a hybrid. Instead of buying one, suggests the Vancouver Sun, you can consider a smaller car that has better fuel economy like the Honda Fit, smart Fortwo, and the Toyota Yaris. And these cars are less expensive to buy than hybrids.

None of these cars match the Toyota Prius. But most folks don't drive the distances to make up the higher purchase cost. One of our writers, for example, drives a 150 miles round trip. Per day. He easily paid off the $1500 premium on his Honda Accord hybrid within a year.

Want another way to save on gas without buying a new car. Don't drive so much.

Or...be a hypermiler, and tick all your fellow drivers off in the process... :-)
