Ever since the auto industry started, new models have been able to attract a lot of attention and a lot of buyers. The reason for this could be the massive advertising campaigns that make us feel that we can’t live without the car, the great reviews many cars get from the auto press, or just our thirst for the newest thing.
Whatever the case was, it is no longer. It is being reported that the new cars that have received the most hype are not selling well now and are stagnating at car dealerships. Obviously, this is happening because of the economic conditions which are causing people to spend less.
Some of the cars that have been given the most hype but are experiencing disappointing sales are:
- Pontiac G8 (sedan): 1,832 units sold
- Volvo C30 (convertible): 504 units sold
- Land Rover LR2 (SUV): 500 units sold
- Saturn Astra (sedan): 1,091 units sold
Our take? Timing of the cars, i.e., just as gas prices rose and economy fell, probably had a lot to do with public apathy.
