Recalls on the Hyundai Sonata and various Ford models slams both automakers struggling in the worsening auto market.

The Ottawa Citizen reports that Hyundai Motor Co. is set to replace faulty front passenger seat sensors that , in an accident, would prevent the front passenger side airbag from inflating. Ouch. Limited to the 2006 through 2008 Hyundai Sonata, it require mechanics to test the sensor, replace, and reprogram if faulty.

Ford Motor *** too, finds itself with a dangerous fault, that could actually cause the accident. A vacuum hose in the engine bay can swell and come loose leaving the driver with no brakes. Models affected include 50,000 2005-06 Ford F-150 and Lincoln Mark LT equipped with Ford's corporate 3-valve 5.4 liter V8,

Ford is also recalling 4,500 2008 Super Duty pickups for fuel tank reinforcement to increase crash worthiness.

Our take? Surprisingly serious recalls for the Sonata and Fords.

The 2005 Hyundai Sonata GLS has several problems that should be warranteed and recalled, close to the 2006 recalls. We own a company and have purchased over 14 Hyundais. We have found that the Sonata GLS 2005 has problems with the airbag deployment, seatbelt restraint, the front tires are closer to the back & not centered on the wheel well, have elecrical problems & that unibody type frame & so on. Hyundai had a great warrantee 10 years ago. They do not stand up to their warrantee as before & I have found that some of the warrantte has changed. I have switched to Toyota.
