That manufacturer is Hyundai and the car is the Elantra.
In the July edition of Consumer Reports, the 2008 Hyundai Elantra SE ranked first among a group of 19 compact sedans. It beat the perennial winner Honda Civic by just one point.
Hyundai has come a long way. Pundits in the auto industry as well as editors of auto magazines say that the Consumer Report list shows how far Hyundai has traveled during the last 10 years. Back then, the cars were considered cheap in all senses of the word.
Mazda, which is owned by Ford, was the only Detroit Three companies to get ranked in the top 10. The Chevrolet Aveo LT ranked last in the list of 11 cars.
Our take? Note that the differences between today's cars are far less than they used to be. Yeah, the Aveo ranked last but that easily could be because the reviewer didn't like its looks. Other measurements have proved that it, as well as other brands, show they match segment leaders Honda and Toyota in quality, reliability, and features.
