As a sportier version of the original TT, the new open-top car draws heavily on the TT Clubsport Speedster concept. Audi has admitted that this may be a limited edition, probably so they can hike up the price.
The 224-hp, 2.0-liter engine four-cylinder common-rail A3 Clubsport was also unveiled at the same geekfest for Audi and Volkswagen enthusiasts.
A new turbocharged 2.0-liter, four cylinder TFSI gasoline engine from the EA888 engine family is sitting in the bowels of the TT Quattro, producing a claimed 300hp. Take that Clubsport A3.
The new engine is capable of quite a mouthful that goes something like this: It channels drive to all four wheels through Audi's new seven-speed S-tronic double-clutch gearbox, with steering-wheel-mounted paddles. A choice between manual and automatic modes is also available.
The 19-inch alloy wheels rubbered with 255/35 profile tires accommodate widened tracks. Additionally, the body shell has been widened by 2.4 inches. The front is graced with larger air ducts and the backside is covered with a hard plastic tonneau.
In the interior, the pedals, instrument bezels and door handles are all fitted with aluminum. Tan leather is applied generously to the racecar style seats.
Before you get excited about this new speedster, North American sales are highly unlikely given the cut-down windshield and the absence of a header rail. Crash regulations will bar this from your local dealership. Don’t feel too bad; it will probably be sold for a lot more than you are willing to pay for anyways.
