GM is placing a lot of weight on electric vehicles to be able to do this. The Volt will be their first electric vehicle and is expected out in 2010. GM is also relying on hybrids such as the Saturn Aura, Chevrolet Malibu and Saturn Vue. And GM is producing flex fuel vehicles that run on ethanol E85 or regular gas. There are 12 models of flex fuel vehicles including the Chevrolet Impala and Silverado and the GMC Yukon.
Ford also said that they are committed to producing greener vehicles that deliver better fuel efficiency. These include the Escape Hybrid and the Ford Fusion Hybrid. The company will be using new technology like their EcoBoost gasoline turbocharged direct injection engine that is slated for introduction in 2009. It is said that the EcoBoost engine will improve fuel efficiency by up to 20 percent as it limits greenhouse gas emissions. It is being reported that Ford is producing 250,000 flex fuel vehicles a year. These include the Ford Crown Victoria, Grand Marquis and Lincoln Town Car.
Volkswagen is concentrating on diesel. They are developing turbo-diesel injection engines to improve on fuel economy. VW says that the new engine is 30 percent more efficient than a regular gas engine.
Toyota is staying focused on hybrid technology. The company now has six hybrid vehicles -- the Prius, Camry Hybrid, the Highlander Hybrid and three Lexus model hybrids.
