Chevrolet Volt Looking for Even More Cash

General Motors announced recently that the highly touted Chevrolet Volt electric car will be manufactured in Detroit.

However, due to the costs, the company is seeking help from the state government as well as the federal government in the form of tax breaks. GM representatives have recently talked to members of the Detroit City Council concerning this but the company has not announced exactly what it is seeking in tax incentives.

Our take? More tax incentives from one of the impoverished areas in the nation? GM, the Volt better payback ten-fold.

Okay...are they asking for tax incentives for the manufacture of the vehicle, or tax incentives for the buyers? I could see buyer incentives, as was the case for the Prius and other hybrids when they were first introduced, but GM should become overly-reliant on government hand-outs to make this work.
