That is why General Motors has given the green light for the production of the Chevrolet Volt concept while the Hummer SUV is going through a “strategic assessment.” That means the brand may go on sale. Or its product line up may be re-worked. Execs have not said when a decision will be coming.
GM has also announced plans to develop a small global car which will replace the Chevrolet Cobalt. The vehicle will feature a turbocharged 1.4 liter, four-cylinder engine which, with a manual transmission, offers a gas savings of 9 mpg over current engines used in this segment. GM is expected to start production of the new compact in mid-2010.
