Freed from his association with tuning Ford's, especially the Mustang, Saleen has started a new company, SMS, that instead will bring the Saleen formula to other makes.
Among those will be an SMS version of the upcoming 2009 Dodge Challenger. Comprised of two offerings, the SMS 570 and SMS 570X, they will boasting power outputs of 500 and 700 bhp respectively from their supercharged HEMI derived motors, as well as the ubiquitous Saleen chassis tweaks. (The man was a champion road racer, after all).
Visual tweaks area likely to stay within the Saleen fold as well. That means look for bespoke body pieces and unique detailing that make observers notice the cars are special without being pretentious in any way.
Mustangs beware.
Our take? The cars will be good, better yet is the notion of Saleen tweaked cars with no blue oval ties.
