In the midst of covering Bill Clinton's town hall meetings in Indiana, Anburajan watches as a man pours out a pocket of small change onto the cashier's station, asking to prepay for five dollars' worth of gas - not even a gallon and a half at this particular station. That this man was using petty change, and even then only partially filling his tank, is indicative of how hard some Americans are getting hit by the continually rising gas prices.
A gas tax holiday might seem to help Americans to whom every cent matters at the pump, but there really is no way that a gas tax break will solve anything in the long run. Things like the upkeep for roads and bridges depend revenue generated from gas taxes - several months with lessened revenue will do little to help the situation.
