General Motors-owned Saab and Ford's own Volvo have what appear to be bleak futures, replete with lackluster lineups and no clear brand imaging. Here's why.
Volvo's attempts at faster or more aggressive cars had fairly clear hits and misses, but one of their impressive vehicles, the XC90, will be on its way out soon because it isn't quite green enough. Compared to similar offerings by other automakers, Safety has been the one of the key selling points of Volvo cars: everyone knows, or at least believes that they know, that these vehicles have been one of the safest on the road; yet a look at the NHTSA safety scores will show you that the S60 scored almost exactly the same as a Mercedes-Benz C-Class.

Saab, on the other hand, has what looks to be exciting cars on the way, but this may be a moot point as the newest offering on the horizon is the aged 9-5, which will be a 2009 model. With an aging lineup, and lackluster introduction of new vehicles ("Saabbaru" version of the Subaru WRX, anyone?) does Saab have much to look forward to in the future?
Your comments or thoughts are, as always, welcome. What do you think lies in the future for these two automakers?
