Solazyme, a biotech company based in San Francisco, California, has been showing off a 2008 Ford F-450 truck that runs on "Soladiesel", a 100 percent algae-based biodiesel.
The company says that crude alga oils can be mixed with petroleum crude in existing oil refineries and can also be used to refine into biodiesel, renewable diesel, and jet fuel.
The U.S. Defense Department appears to be interested in the fuel. Biodiesel is more suitable for cold weather climates where other types of biofuels have not seemed to work as well.
