The general contract with the national UAW was well and good. But the auto makers still had to negotiate contracts with the local unions that run the local plants. General Motors continues on with that process.
In the latest news from the front, it appears that GM has an agreement with a powertrain plant in Ohio, but confronted by strikes over at assembly plants in Michigan and Kansas.
GM is also in negotiations with plants in Warren and Grand Rapids, Michigan, and Mansfield, Ohio.
Our take? At the time this post was written, GM was optimistic that it had enough stock of popular vehicles like the all-new Chevrolet Malibu and the Buick Enclave to weather the strikes. News is coming, though, that may have been optimistic. Will the unions, again, bear the brunt of fault of GM's latest recovery.
