Chevrolet Volt: Coming Down to the Wire

Highest on the development list is the batteries to be used by the Volt. The batteries are so important due to GM promising 40 miles of electric only range with plu-in convenience.

Yet, not knowing exactly which direction battery development will go, the automaker intends to keep the top suppliers close to the vest with varied contracts to ensure that it will always be closest to the latest, greatest developments. How? Much in the way the government provides a main contract to keep suppliers close.

Our take? GM has to deliver, that is all.
