What price point defines a luxury car? $20,000? $30,000? $40,000? Whatever that price is, many sources like to set arbitrary numbers to make a point.

In one report, the point to be made is “the best luxury cars available.” So where do you set the price? In this case, the price is set at a good round figure of $50,000.

So, if you are in the market for a luxury car at that price, what cars should you be investigating?

MSNBC says that you should be considering the BMW Z4 Roadster, the Lincoln MKX crossover, the Audi A3 wagon, the Land Rover SUV, and the Mercedes SLK roadster. They based these selections on the Strategic Vision’s 2007 Total Value Awards which evaluates classes of cars on such criteria as reliability, warranty, anticipated resale value, durability, innovation, and dealership and ownership experience.

Our take? Buy a $30,000 car and add $20,000 worth of bling. So much nicer.
