One dilemma being confronted is matching the large family with the mode of transportation. A simple sedan or coupe just doesn’t do it for a family of six or more. So they turn to the larger vehicles -- SUVs or crossovers. But, because of the size of these vehicles, they may not achieve the same kind of fuel savings as that achieved by smaller sedans and coupes. So, what’s mother to do?
They are searching out crossovers that have the best fuel economy as possible, that’s what a mother is to do. And it is the smaller crossovers that they are settling on. For example, a two-wheel drive Chevrolet Suburban 1500 with a 5.3 liter, 8-cylinder engine gets an EPA estimated 14 mpg in the city and 20 mpg on the highway. A slightly smaller crossover, the GMC Acadia, weighs less and is 11-inches shorter and has three rows of seats but gets 16 mpg in the city and 24 mpg on the highway. Which one is the larger families opting for? The Acadia. Although fuel economy is just a few miles between models, there still is some kind of savings with the Acadia. It also seems that crossovers that are attracting attention have four cylinder engines. Again, a way to save on fuel.
