2009 Nissan Maxima Redux

In a move to restore its flagship to its four door sports car roots, Nissan has pushed the design of the Maxima's exterior.

Recent generations have not been wanting for power or chassis prowess, but the exterior has not necessarily telegraphed correctly its intentions.

The new design, however, with its narrow wasted broad fendered styling, tidier proportions, and unique detailing, leaves no doubts about the fact that it is no mere run-of-the-mill sporty sedan.

Highlights include strong fenders, including an especially nice detail in which the front fender line flows directly into the front fascia; terminating grill, and determining the shape of the headlights. Those headlights will no doubt be a talking point as well, with their distinct boomerang shape unique in the automotive marketplace.

Our take? In one quick move, Nissan has managed to make all its previous designs look dated, even given the fact that good looks are debatable and wholly subjective.

Staff at http://www.maximaclub.org/ have already driven the '09 Maxima, and it is exactly as Automotive.com has said: Nissan has, with one design, made everything else look irrelevant and less-attractive.

Couple the new design with a high-efficience diesel motor, and Nissan has a world-beater on its hands.
