One top seller is the Cadillac Escalade SUV. So General Motors is prominently exhibiting it at the Beijing Auto Show earlier this month.
When experts say that auto sales in China is booming, they ain’t kidding. They forecast an increase in sales of 15 to 20 percent this year. However, demand for the bigger vehicles -- the gas guzzlers -- is even higher. Sales of luxury cars and SUVs is projected to be up by 40 percent to 45 percent.
The sale of gas guzzlers is helped along by a government policy that freezes the price of gasoline and diesel. As a result, gas in China costs $2.90 a gallon.
No surprise, therefore, that the major automakers of the world exhibiting at the Beijing show are hyping their gas guzzlers.
