People have always said that after a while, all dog owners start to look like their pets.
Just go to any dog park or beach and you can see that people--consciously or not--do seem to pick dogs that bear some physical resemblance. Perhaps it is just a natural instinct that we are drawn to taking care of creatures that look most like us. It can be the case with offspring, so why not pets?
On this same line of non sequitur thinking is the notion that the cars we choose can often times mirror the appearance and characteristics of our pets. So which cars, trucks and SUVs share the most with our canine compatriots?
As it so happens the American Kennel Club just released its 2007 Top Ten Most Popular Breeds in the United States. Following that is the idea of which car most clearly resembles, in physicality or character, each specific breed. The only question left to answer after this will be, which one is man’s best friend?
1. Labrador Retriever-(Toyota Camry)-This duo is more popular than Hannah Montana at a Middle School and a stoic, reliable friend with which to pass the years. The wobbly accent lines on the back of the Camry are also oddly reminiscent of the extra skin most Labs have on their haunches. Coincidence?
2. Chihuahua-(Smart ForTwo)-Both are the tiniest models around and are prone to high pitched noises when pushed too hard. They are cute but only a certain segment of the population really understands the appeal.
3. German Shepherd Dog-(Ford Crown Victoria)- Doesn’t the ultimate police dog deserve to ride around in the ultimate police car?
4. Golden Retriever-(Honda Accord)-This is not just because most Honda Accords are gold colored. But we must say they usually look best that way. Golden Retrievers, like the Accord, are well known to live many more years than your usual purebred.
5. Beagle –(BMW 3 Series)- This autobahn stalker has a kidney shaped snout similar to the one on this hunt loving purebred. They are both smaller than their competition but should never be underestimated whether at the park or on the Autobahn.
6. Boxer-(Porsche 911)-The 911 is a German thoroughbred as is the Boxer. The headlights of the latest generation 911s are also clearly an homage to the sad, droopy eyes of most boxers. And who can deny the fact that the 911 is powered by a flat six “boxer” engine? Case closed.
7. Dachshund-(Toyota Prius)- The dachshund and the Prius have similarly shaped bodies in that they are both oddly oblong. A Prius also always appears to have tiny wheels on this huge long body, kind of like the tiny paws on the long “weiner dog.”
8. Poodle-(Cadillac SLR)-These two represent the ultimate in showy—some say gaudy—ostentation. This is in spite of that fact that they are both great fun and demonstrate the old adage that beauty can be more than just skin deep.
9. Shih Tzu-(VW Beetle Convertible)- This duo exists merely to be adored and to be cute!
10. Bulldog-(MINI Cooper)-Both of these are deeply bred (some say inbred) with a bounty of English character. Also, can you tell us that you can’t see a bulldogs face when looking at a MINI straight on from the front! The thing has the same jowls!
