Ford's 'Drive One' is a Talkfest

Question: Would consumers rather see “real” people discussing product in advertising campaigns or would they rather be seeing the cars themselves doing the selling?

Ford is banking on the idea that you, the buyer, would rather see said folks representing auto workers, dealers, and fellow consumers.

In a new campaign called ‘Drive One,’ Ford will be using such workers as Stephen Kozak, engineer with the company; a 22-year old consumer named Amy Hardigee of California who actually owns a Volkswagen Beetle but is now shopping for a Ford; and Ford/Lincoln-Mercury dealer Jeff Robberson of Bend, Oregon to sell Ford.

Full details can be found here. Our take? Will it work? Time will tell. But one thing is certain, it is interesting to see the auto makers getting more creative with their advertising campaigns. They are willing to try almost anything to get people interested in buying their cars. Have you seen the new Volkswagen commercials with an old Beetle as a talk show host touting Volkswagen? Frankly, we like Ford’s concept a whole lot better.
