Well, Hyundai feels that its i30 will be the latest challenger to the Golf. In a recent event sponsored by the brand, the Korean automaker put the i30 against VW's staple in a back-to-back test. Hyundai felt the event proved that its vehicle wasn't far off the in terms of performance.
Unfortunately, performance is one of many categories under which cars are compared, and the i30, well, didn't do so hot.
Our take? The superiority of the Golf versus its competition is questionable; the image it has managed to associate with itself however, is what will be hard for others to match. Unfortunately for Hyundai, it may have further to go than any one else in that respect.
