Oh, Porsche

Being the maker of some of the most desirable cars on the road today carries a heavy price - and Porsche is finding out just how costly a high-performance lineup can be.

Porsche's own manager for energy and the environment has tactfully stated that the European Union's emissions target is undesirable and possibly even unreachable for Porsche, though its prototype hybrid powertrains are still in the works.

At the 2007 Los Angeles International Auto Show, a Porsche executive announced to the gathered press that even if all Porsches on the road today were simultaneously switched off, there is no instrument in the world sensitive enough to measure the environmental impact of that action.

Our take? Looks like the best instrument in this case was a pocketbook.

Porsche will find a way to "go Green". Hopefully sooner than later. They'll need to adapt to whats happening in the marketplace.
