Party in 2010 with returning Ford Fiesta

2010 will mark the return of the Fiesta nameplate to Ford's model lineup here in the US.

The compact will be based on the recently introduce Fiesta that is to be marketed in both Europe and Asia. Sporting low weight, solid mechanicals, the integration of high end features like audio, capless refueling, keyless entry and a stylish exterior derived from Ford's Verve concept car; the latest Fiesta does much to entice buyers.

Considering the continuing rise of fuel prices, the consumer public can only be grateful.

Our take? America is a buzz with the news of the arrival of such a cool little car to our shores. Only, we won't be getting that car, we'll be getting a sedan variant. Should that sedan variant follow in the steps of Ford's “bold, American” styling direction as opposed to their very cool “kinetic” design language of Europe... really, Ford... just give us the cars from Europe, unfiltered and unchanged. BMW does (as well as many of the other Euro brands), and people really seem to like their cars.

I just hope we get the hatchbacks and not just some dorky notchbacks, because the "suits" in Dearborn don't think Americans want hatchbacks.

This car will be based on the terrific Mazda2 (Demio) and should be a success for Ford in the "B" segment. Especially with $4 a gallon gas.

Give us some 5-door hatchbacks, please?
