All the presidential hopefuls have to include the automobile industry in some way in their pitch for votes. And a favorite topic includes ways to conserve fuel.

Senator Barack Obama has weighed in on the issue. In a recent campaign stop in Terre Haute, Indiana he was asked about corn-based ethanol as an alternative to gasoline. His response was that corn-based ethanol was a “transitional” technology. He noted that it is not as efficient as sugar cane based ethanol.

Obama’s energy policy includes an intent to charge polluters for their impact on global warming and to use the funds to finance the development of renewable energies including wind, solar and clean coal.
