Canadians choose Cars over Carbon

It seems that just about every country in the world uses their tax code to influence the behavior of their citizens. Or try to. The latest to do this is the government of British Columbia in Canada.

According to the National Post, officials plan to increase the carbon tax (as in carbon dioxide) on drivers by 2.4 cents per litre during the summer. It is hoped that drivers will then cut down on their noxious habit of, well, driving, and pollute the environment less.

Uh, huh. Many pundits say that this is not going to work. Why? well, when the price of gas went up twice, no one cared. Policy makers continual forget that consumers have a high tolerance for what they consider a 'necessity'. All the government really gets is some extra cash.

Huh. You don't think...?
