Tata Hybrid Nanos may be in the works

Tata Motors of India recently shook the world with its development and sale of the Nano, the cheapest car on the planet with a MSRP of $2,500.

Now comes word that Tata is developing a hybrid vehicle and also developing five -- count ‘em, five -- prototype electric vehicles. These EVs will feature lithium ion batteries (of course) which could have a range of 200 kilometers, or over 124 miles, between charge.

The company expects to offer the vehicle by 2011.

Our take? Tata sure has been making news lately. But will it change forever the way we look at cars and transportation? Usually, it is the upstarts that do!
