Driving a Volvo 850 TDI, Catherine Kohtz lost control of her car killing two children.
This happened in 1999 in the French town of Wasselonne. Catherine claims the car brakes failed her.
Volvo's defense attorneys claim Ms. Koht's brakes had not malfunctioned and the killing of the children was her inability to control the car. She served 6 months in jail and was fined $446.00 and her license was suspended for one year.
After the humiliation, time, cost, and interruption in her otherwise serene life, Volvo has now been found guilty of manslaughter by a French Court that found dysfunctional brakes actually were the reason Ms Kohtz's car swerved out of control and killed two innocent children.
Our take? Volvo still sounds off that they are innocent. Nobody from Volvo will spend time in jail and their lives will certainly not be interrupted. Oh, but they did have to pay nearly $400,000.00 in fines. We wonder if any good came to Catherine Kohtz out of this?
