Toyota's Chief Executive, Katsuaki Watanabe, opened up this new year by announcing that there would be hybrid version available for every model that it offers.  This decision is a direct response to Toyota's goal of selling 1 million hybrid cars annually.

The hybrid decision will not be limited to Toyota either as their luxury division Lexus has also committed to offering a hybrid version of each of its model offerings.

Our take? Environmental issues continue to be the hot topic for the automotive industry. Though a hybrid version of every model is an interesting prospect, one has to wonder how Toyota will justify such a business model when there is a premium charged for hybrids. In addition, the market so far has not supported the sales of normal looking hybrid vehicles, and in many ways the greatest selling point of the Prius is that it looks like a hybrid, and therefore allows the owner to advertise their progressiveness.
