Wal-Mart and the Auto Industry

H. Lee Scott, Wal-Mart Stores Inc. CEO, recently stated that he's had talks with major auto manufacturers about selling both hybrids and plug-in electric cars at the stores.

Though Scott states that it may be too early for Wal-Mart to enter the auto market, he feels that the stores themselves will play a role in the future of the automobile. He outlined the possibility of the stores using alternative energy sources to provide a means for electric car owners to charge their vehicles while at the store.

Our take? Though buying a car at Wal-Mart seems farfetched at this point, its proactive stance on providing a place for electric cars to charge themselves is step in the right direction.
