Tesla Roadster is Car of the Year for Wired Site

Many of the big name car magazines made their names big through their 'Car of the Year Awards'. Witness Motor Trend, Automobile Magazine, and others.

Now there is a new entry from Autopia. On its way to choosing its 'Car of the Year', the editors also made some perceptive pronouncements about the past year.

The auto world, according to Autopia, points out that there has been a renewed focus on diesel engines and smaller cars due to a drive for cleaner, more fuel-efficient vehicles. This is especially true in Japan and Europe And the sites predicts that more will be done on this during the coming year. Also noted were a whole lot of things impacting on the car industry including falling sales in America and Europe, rising fuel prices, a tightening of fuel economy by governments, etc. And the car makers are figuring out ways to cope.

But, as far as the Car of the Year selection is concerned, Autopia has chosen the Tesla Roadster. Why? Because it is “the coolest alternative fuel vehicle ever made” and because it best represents the direction the auto industry “must go.”  The Tesla, claims the editors, is pushing the idea that status quo is no longer good enough. It’s time for new thinking, new ideas, more innovation!
