Chevrolet raids Cadillac parts-bin for new subcompact

The idea of sharing parts between models within the same marquee and within the same manufacturers’ stable of marquees has proven to be a good way to save money on production and just make things a whole lot more efficient.

The domestic auto makers have learned that it is profitable to share. Word is that a new model Chevrolet will be made using the platform of the more luxurious Cadillac CTS. Motor Trend is reporting that the rear drive Alpha platform that was originally thought would be used by Pontiac will be taken by Chevrolet instead -- specifically, a subcompact version of the Cadillac CTS.

A subcompact Cadillac brings to mind the old Cadillac Cimarron. Whatever happened to that car?

General Motors also said that it is considering moving the 2013 Pontiac Solstice and Saturn Sky to Alpha to accommodate a compact, rear-drive sedan.

Our take? See how easy things can be when you share?
