Nothing is for sure. However, Lexus consumers in Australia are asking for a more inexpensive car to slot under the IS.
According to CARSGuide, such a small car to slot under the IS in the model lineup makes sense. Lexus competitors BMW, for example, will soon be selling its 1-Series worldwide; Mercedes-Benz has the C-coupe; and and Audi has the A3.
The smaller car would no doubt be more economical than any of their current lineup as well, and as such would provide the benefit of being able to offset the high fuel consumption of their SUVs such as the popular RX.
Ultimately however, the greatest draw for Lexus to introduce a more inexpensive model is more sales. Such sales could bring younger buyers into the Lexus fold, and hopefully they’ll stay there.
Our take? Don’t count on the US getting a more inexpensive Lexus anytime soon. The biggest reason the Aussies are interested is cost (of course): cars in Australia are more expensive, with the IS 250 (pictured) starting at right around $30,000.
