The Hummer H3T is a cross between a pickup truck and an SUV and falls between the Chevrolet Colorado/GMC Canyon midsize pickups and the full-size Chevrolet Silverado/GMC Sierra in size. The vehicle was first shown at the 2004 Los Angeles Auto Show.

According to Wards Auto, General Motors has announced that it has tapped its Shreveport, Louisiana assembly plant as the location for the manufacturing of the all-new SUV.

GM had supplied production plans to the United Auto Workers as part of the agreement of their new contract. The plant would continue manufacturing the Hummer H3 while dropping production of the Colorado/Canyon pickups.

The addition of the new Hummer to GM’s stable of vehicles assists in retaining 363 jobs at the plant. Currently, there are 2,100 hourly workers who serve two shifts at the plant.

The Hummer H3T is scheduled to be in dealers’ showrooms by the third-quarter of 2008 but GM has not announced when production will begin.
